Volkswagen has started its second innings in the Indian SUV segment with the launch of new Tiguan. Volkswagen’s first attempt was Touareg which failed to make any impact among Indian buyers. Now, to cash in the SUV craze in the country VW is targeting that particular segment with Tiguan. It will face tough competition from Hyundai Tucson and soon to be launched Jeep Compass. Unveiled at 2016 Auto Expo, the Production of Tiguan was commenced in March at the VW’s Aurangabad facility.
Price
Volkswagen Tiguan is available in two variants-Comfortline and Highline, priced at Rs. 27.98 lakh and Rs. 31.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.
Engine Details
The Tiguan is available only with one engine option i.e. 2.0l 4-cylinder turbocharged TDI diesel motor that makes 141bhp of power@4000rpm and 340Nm of torque between 1750-2750rpm. Transmission duty is taken care by a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox that sends power to all wheels via intelligent AWD system. Volkswagen claims it to deliver a fuel efficiency of 17.06 Kmpl.
Space and Dimensions
At tape, the five-seater VW Tiguan measures 4486mm in length, 1839mm in width, 1672mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2677. The ground clearance rates at 149mm while boot capacity stands at 615 liters which can be further extended up to 1655 liters with rear seats folded.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is available in five exciting colors: Deep Black, Indium Grey, ORYX white, Tungsten Silver and Atlantic blue
Exterior
The Tiguan shares some elements from other VW model with a shade sophistication and premiumness. The front which flaunts a long two slate horizontal front grille flanked by LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The muscular front bumper with fog lamps certainly makes it aggressive from the front. Speaking of the sides, it gets deep creases from bonnet to tail lamps along with 18 inch alloy wheels and wheel arches provide it a dominant stance. The rear flaunts a clear design thanks to thin chrome line that separates bumper from the body and split LED tail lamps.
Interiors
The cabin of Tiguan features well laid out interiors, premium leather upholstery and rich features. It sports a three spoke flat bottom steering with plethora of control buttons for audio, music and telephony. The dashboard comes with dark grid inserts and an 8 inch touchscreen system with Apple car play, Android auto and mirror link support. Other features include illuminated scuff plates, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, electric tail gate with one touch close, keyless entry with push start button, three-zone automatic air-conditioning with rear controls, cruise control, electrically adjustable front seats with driver memory function, paddle shifters and automatic headlamps.
Safety
As for the safety, Tiguan boasts of six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front-rear park distance control, automatic post collision braking system, tyre pressure monitoring system, lane assist departure warning system, pedestrian monitoring, city emergency braking, reverse parking camera, ASR, EDL and self sealing tyres.
