After being spied several times on Indian roads, Volkswagen Tiguan SUV launch has been confirmed. The mid size SUV will be launched in India on May 24 i.e. tomorrow and the Production started last month at its Aurangabad facility, Maharashtra. The bookings for the SUV have already begun at selected Volkswagen Showrooms. It will be offered with five seat configuration in two variants- Comfortline and Highline.
Based on brand’s MQB platform that also underpins new Octavia and Passat, Tiguan is approx 50 kg lighter than the previous gen model. In international markets, Tiguan draws power from 1.4l TSI petrol that churns out 122bhp power along with a 2.0l TDI diesel motor with 147bhp of max output. In the foreign markets, it is powered to both manual and DSG automatic gearbox along with four drive modes- Snow, Terrain, Sports and Individual.
For India, Tiguan will be powered by a 2.0l TDI oil burner and transmission duties will be taken care by a 7-speed DSG auto gearbox. Tiguan is also available in Plug-in hybrid version which delivers a combined output of 215bhp and rated to deliver fuel efficiency of 52.01 Kmpl. We can expect it for Indian market in years to come.
The Tiguan flaunts a three slate chrome grille, LED headlamps with Daytime running lights, 17/18 inch alloy wheels, muscular roof rails and LED tail lights. For features it comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with eight speakers, electrically adjustable heated front seats with lumbar support, auto dimming rear view mirror, easy open tailgate with delayed closing function, ambient lighting, VW in-car connected services, automatic rain sensing wipers,
The main likely features in the Tiguan are an AM/FM/CD sound system with eight speakers, satellite radio and Bluetooth, keyless entry, push-button start function, newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, Volkswagen in-car connected services, rear-view camera, heated seats and lumbar adjustment for the co- passenger and driver, sturdy roof rails, automatic headlights and wipers that senses rain, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, paddle shifters and much more.
The SUV is loaded with range of safety aids such as six airbags, EDTC, ABS, ASR, EDL, ESC, park distance control, tyre pressure monitoring system, self sealing tyres, reverse parking camera and more. With an expected price of Rs. 20 lakh (ex-showroom) it will take on the likes of Hyundai Tucson and Jeep compass.
