During the roll out of its compact sedan Ameo, Volkswagen has announced that they are working on the new version of a 1.5 litre TDI diesel engine and now according to reports the German carmaker will be launching the updated engine by October this year. Currently the engine develops 103.5bhp of power and 230Nm of high torque but after updation it will deliver a power output of 108bhp.
Apart from tweaked power, the new engine is expected to be more fuel efficient than the previous one, at present the engine delivers close to 20-21 Kmpl of mileage. The German carmaker will launch the new engine with Ameo first followed by Vento, Polo hatchback and even Skoda rapid.
Volkswagen has already initiated the production of Ameo at its Chakan plant, Pune and it is expected to hit Indian shores by first half of July 2016. Built at a total investment of Rs. 720 crores, Ameo will try shake the already competition featuring giants like Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Ford Figo Aspire.
Based on Polo hatch, it will feature with tried and tested range of engines- 1.2l MPI petrol and 1.5l TDI diesel engines. Transmission segment will be taken care by a 5-speed manual and seven speed DSG automatic gearbox. Expected to be priced at Rs. 5.3-8.5 lakhs (ex-showroom), it comes with several segment first features like cruise control, rain sensing wipers, reverse parking camera and static cornering lights.
The Ameo will also sports automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system with mirror link app, multi-information display etc. Driver side airbag and Anti-lock braking system (ABS) will available as standard across all the variants of Ameo.
