Volkswagen Cross Polo was launched in India two years ago and apart from receiving mild tweak last year it has not received any major update. The Cross Polo was one of the first vehicles to enter into Crossover segment in India after Skoda Fabia Scout which was discontinued due to poor sales. According to reports, Volkswagen is working on facelift version of Cross Polo and will be launched by end of this year.
Cross Polo is beefed up version of Polo hatchback with some puff added to attract buyers but failed to win any. Later on Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and Hyundai i20 Active is denting Cross Polo’s sale, though Avventura has become a market dud already and i20 active is new so it remains to be seen how Indian buyers accept it.
The Cross Polo received its update in August 2014 in the form of tweaked bumpers, new dual beam headlights with cornering function; revised tail lights etc while others features like skied guards, grille, alloy wheels remain same. Inside the cabin, it got black theme that includes black seats with contrast stitching, black dashboard, new instrument cluster with revised MID and silver inserts etc.
Volkswagen had launched petrol version of Cross Polo this year and features the same 1.2L MPI petrol engine of Polo hatchback with the output of 74bhp and 110Nm torque. The variant got some update as well like three new color shades, updated cabin and cloud titan seat upholstery etc.
The Crossover would share most of the features with its hatchback but the new cross Polo will bigger 16 inch alloy wheels and some new features which would differentiate it from its hatchback counterpart.
The new Cross Polo might share some design cues from the international model that was unveiled at Geneva motor show which would Cross Polo to stand out from standard Polo hatchback. Mechanically Cross Polo might remain same as before with 1.2L MPI Petrol and 1.5L TDI diesel engines. The new Cross Polo is expected to be launched by the end of this year and with these additions, the company would try to make competitive against i20 Active, Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross and upcoming SX4 S Cross aka A-cross.
