Toyota Kirloskar motors (TKM) has announced the recall of its sedan Camry after the recent Innova MPV recall. The Car manufacturer recalled those cars which were manufactured between March and July 2011 in Japan and Sold in India to rectify faulty front suspension of the sedan. This move is a part and parcel of a global recall of 1.7 lakh units of Camry by Toyota Motor Corp, World’s biggest car manufacturer.
In April Toyota had recalled 44,989 units of Innova manufactured between February 2005 and December 2008 in India to fix faulty cable on the steering wheel. Continuing the recalling spree, earlier this month German car manufacturer Audi had recalled the 6,758 units of A4 sedans in India, manufactured between November 2011 and October 2014, to upgrade software in airbag control unit.
Ever since the auto industry body SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile manufactures) has started Voluntary vehicle recalls for safety related issue in India in July 2012, Over 7 lakh vehicles have been recalled by various reputed car manufactures like Maruti Suzuki, M&M, Ford, Honda, General Motors and Nissan, Audi and Toyota now joins this list.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) in a statement has said, “The recall campaign will cover a total of 119 units sold in India and manufactured in Japan between March 2011 and July 2011,” They further added that, “No complaints have been received in India so far. However, the company is conducting this recall as a part of Voluntary recall Code”.
The company also said Customers would be contacted by the authorized Toyota dealers and the vehicle repair, if necessary, will be done free of cost with approximate time of repairing is expected to be around 2 hours.
Earlier this year at the Moscow International Show in August, Toyota has unfolded the India based version of Current GEN Camry and US Spec aggressive looking Camry facelift at the New York Moto show. The overall design of facelift Camry will similar to ongoing car but front fascia and rear profile would get some cosmetic changes like new projector headlights with daytime running LEDs, redesigned bumpers with integrated fog lamps and interior wise it would get new infotainment system, instrument cluster and three spoke steering wheel. Camry facelift will be available in same petrol and Hybrid version in India.
