Tata Motors is trying hard to strengthen its root in Indian market and its recent launches like Zest, Bolt somehow reflect their hard work. The home grown maker’s upcoming launch will be Zica hatchback which on the first glance is ready to set benchmarks in the segment against the well established players like Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Celerio and Chevrolet beat. Tata Zica will be soon joined a compact sedan codenamed as Sway which is spotted on test on the Indian shores.
Tata Sway will be based on Zica’s XO platform and might also share the similar design cues. The Spy shot model was heavily camouflaged and we could barely see anything. The car is expected to break cover at the Auto Expo next month and will be the successor to the Indigo eCS.
We can the front honeycomb grille and the side profile with subtle creases akin to the Zica hatchback while rear looks conventional with short overhangs much like other compact sedans in the segment. On the inside, it will carry over the features and design of Zica which include all black treatment, new three spoke multifunction steering wheel, voice assisted navigation, adjustable ORVMs, a Harman Kardon powered 8-speaker 2-DIN audio system with USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity, ABS and dual front airbags etc.
As it will be based on reworked XO platform on Zica so it is likely to bear the same power trains of the hatchback that include a 1.2-litre three-cylinder DOHC aluminum motor which is good to deliver 83bhp@6000rpm and 114Nm torque@3500rpm. While the 1.0 liter diesel engine dishes out 69bhp@4000rpm and peak torque of 140Nm@1800-3000rpm. The Sway might also get three drive modes- Eco, Sport and Sport. Transmission options on offer would be a 5-speed manual alongside an AMT gearbox.
The Sway is expected to be affordable sub-4m sedan in the market with the expected price of Rs. 4.5- 7.1 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will have to fight for its place in the overcrowded segment against the players like Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Figo Aspire and Honda Amaze.
