At the 12th Auto Expo recently held in Feb 2014, Tata Motors came with two exciting models which have attracted the audience towards them and no doubt that people are waiting for these launches. Among these, one was its compact sedan named Zest which is reportedly all set to hit the market in July this year. While it is said to be one of the best offering by Tata Motors, question still is what different it is offering to its customers than other ongoing-and-popular models of same segment? Well, let’s try to find out.
In India, this trendy car will compete with some already popular same segment models like Honda Amaze, Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Xcent etc.
New Design language
Must say, unlike Tata’s other ongoing models, this new Zest has some guts to show-off and also its looking just lovely in that. Company has designed this car’s exterior with style and with many trending features as well like daytime running lights (DRL), LED tail lamps, new signature front grille which all making the Zest’s outside glance smarter than ever.
Attractive inside cabin with packed features
Not only at outside, this car is looking glamorous even at inside. The finishing is amazing, the material quality is super, the cabin design is attractive and the features availability including touchscreen multimedia system, voice recognition & SMS readouts etc are surely gonna surprise its customers too. We are impressed!
First-in-class F-Tronic diesel AMT
The another section where Tata Motors has done a wonderful job is the equipment of AMT (automated manual transmission) in its diesel mill which is first-in-segment as other same segment cars have only manual gearbox in their respective diesel variants. Also, this AMT gearbox is slightly different than the regular automatic one and also assists the car to gain better fuel efficiency.
Refined engines of Tata Motor’s Revotron Family
Apart from the glimpse and designing, this car is also getting engines of company’s latest engineered technology- ‘Revotron’ and thus company is claiming its engines the refined-ones. Though, about exact details we would come to know only after driving it.
Impressive and better output & torque among the segment
As Tata has revealed about the equipped engines in this Zest along with produced power and torque, it surely seems to have something better than its rivals under the hood. However, it is sharing the petrol engine of 1.2 liter like its other main rivals but delivered output and torque tells main difference. The Zest petrol will churn out the max power of 88.7bhp and peak torque of 140Nm which is better than other same segment models like Amaze, Xcent and Dzire.
Meanwhile, the equipped diesel mill in Zest also offers better figures on paper than its rivals. The Zest has 1.3 liter diesel engine deriving 88.7bhp and 200Nm of max power & torque which is more than Hyundai Xcent and Maruti Dzire while Honda Amaze has still better power to offer, though.
Much longer wheelbase
However, dimensions of Tata Zest are almost similar with other cars of same segment with some ups & downs but wheelbase is much better. The Zest carries longest wheelbase of 2470mm over the Amaze’s 2405mm, Xcent’s 2425mm and Dzire’s 243
