Tata has just launched Tiago hatchback which became company’s bestselling car last month and reportedly crossed over 15,000 bookings already. Now, Tata is pepping up for the most significant and biggest update of country’s most affordable car Nano codenamed as Pelican. The test mule spotted on test runs in the city of Pune and is under heavy camouflaged. Spied images that surfaced online reveal front and rear profile while interiors are completely snapped.
The Pelican may sit between newly launched Tiago and GenX Nano, likely to draw design cues from Nano Europa concept. In terms of design, it is a retuned version of current Gen Nano like front and rear bumpers are similar to GenX Nano. The new model sports a large 13 inch wheel replacing the current 12 inchers while sides of the card seem to subtle creases and one can notice the right hand side rear panel.
Up front, bonnet and headlights receives some updates white at rear windshield wiper now has two arms and it may also get tweaked tail lamps. Coming to the interiors where Nano Pelican gets the major changes in the form of new dashboard, new instrument cluster behind the conventional steering wheel.
The car also features redesigned AC vents at centre HVAC units, Harmon Kardon connect next infotainment system and new seats. For safety, it might get driver side airbag as option across all the variants.
Under the hood, it could pack a bigger engine churning out the power of close to 70-80bhp which is significant leap over current model 38PS power. There are also reports of diesel engine for the new model. With an expected price of Rs. 3.25 lakh, it will be launched sometime in next year and will be taking on Hyundai Eon, Renault Kwid and Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.
