Tata is getting lot of praise for its first compact Diesel automatic sedan ‘Zest’ which was launched few months back. Tata is on renewal phase and concentrating more on feature rich and world class standard products Tata Zest is the prime example of it. After the success of Zest, Tata will be launching Bolt Hatchback which is based on Tata’s Horizon next strategy adopted by Tata last year. Launch will happen soon most probably by January 2015, so here are the engine specifications and features of Tata Bolt.

Engine Details:

Tata Bolt will be launched in both Petrol and Diesel version; Petrol variant will be powered to a four cylinder 1.2L Revotron engine which returns 90ps power@5000rpm and 140Nm torque@1500-4000rpm mated to 5 speed manual transmission.

Diesel trim will be equipped by a 1.3L Multijet engine which churns out 75Ps power@4000rpm and 190Nm torque at 1750-3000rpm and coupled to a same 5 speed manual transmission. Both the trims have top speed of 155 km/hr.

Space and Dimensions:

Tata Bolt is a fairly decent car in space department. Company claims that rear seat and overall space is much better than its competitors in the segment. Tata Bolt measures at 3825mm length, 1695mm wide and 1562m height, wheelbase and ground clearance of 2470mm and 165mm respectively.

Exterior:

New Gen car Tata Bolt will be based on Tata Next Gen platform which means design is based on design next, drivability on drive next and connectivity on connect next. Tata bolt will remind you about Tata Indica and Zest Sedan in looks department like its aggressive front fascia apart from that Bolt hatchback got new front grille with chrome line, swept back projector headlamps, bezel fog lamps, 15 inch alloy wheels, body colored ORVMs with turn indicators, new character lines, black B and C pillars completes the side profile of hatchback.

Rear side of hatchback is different from what we have seen in past Tata cars, rear profile of Bolt is pretty. There is chrome line just above the number plate, beautiful LED tail lamps makes it a meaner car than Zest.

Interior:

Bolt will feature in white black interior shade dashboard with Harmon Kardon touchscreen infotainment system with Voice recognition and various multimedia connectivity, lower variants might get beige interiors like we spotted Bolt cabin funky black-orange cabin, apart from that bolt will be equipped with three spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, premium seats with good lateral support and ample amount of space is available for taller passengers.

Safety:

Bolt is loaded with safety features like corner stability control, dual airbags, ABS+EBD, day-night internal rear view mirror, driver and front occupant airbags, speed sensing auto door locks, anti-theft alarm, engine immobilizer, central locking, front and rear defoggers etc.

Conclusion:

Zest is a successful car mainly because of an AMT transmission, about half of bookings are of AMT Zest but Tata might not introduce AMT in bolt hatchback. So it will affect the sales of Bolt hatchback? Let’s wait for its launch but apart from that Bolt might be another Gem from Tata after Zest sedan and we expect Bolt will be priced aggressively. Bolt will take on Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto EVO, Maruti Suzuki Swift etc.
