Skoda’s most affordable sedan Rapid in India has been launched in refreshed avatar today. The new iteration of the sedan starts at Rs. 8.34 lakh for the base petrol trim and goes all the way to Rs. 12.67 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top end variant. This is the first major update the car receives since its launch in India in 2011 and it sports new cosmetic changes and updated diesel powertrain. Let’s have a look:-
Engine Details:
Skoda rapid facelift is available with the same tried and tested engines- 1.6 MPI petrol and 1.5l TDI diesel engine. The former produces 103bhp of max power and 153Nm torque, linked to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed conventional torque converter automatic transmission and delivers an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 15.4 Kmpl and 14.8 Kmpl respectively.
The TDI mill is tuned to deliver 110PS up by 5PS and 250Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It returns 21.13 Kmpl for manual and 21.72 Kmpl for DSG automatic variant.
Space and Dimensions:
At tape, new Skoda Rapid measures 4413mm in length, 1699mm in width, 1466mm in height and sits on the wheelbase of 2552mm. The sedan has 163mm of ground clearance and from luggage point of view it offers 460 liters of boot space.
Exterior and Interior:
New Skoda Rapid has adapted familiar crystalline design in line with elder siblings like Superb and Octavia. Speaking of the changes, it gets new black front grille with black vertical slats, new angular projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, new front bumper that house new fog lamps and honeycomb air dam. Side and rear profiles remain same except for the new alloy wheels and minor revisions on the tail lamps and reprofiled rear bumper.
Things inside remain moreover same and gets black beige color theme. In terms of equipments, new Rapid sports perforated seats with adjustability function, a 6.5 inch Mirrorlink infotainment system, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, ambient lighting, multi function adjustable steering wheel, automatic climate control, new seat upholstery, reverse parking camera, one touchdown power windows, central armrest, MID that displays distance to empty, current speed and fuel efficiency making it competitive and modern.
Colors:
Skoda is offering new Rapid sedan in six exciting colors- Brilliant Silver, candy white, Cappuccino beige, carbon steel, silk blue and flash red.
Safety:
New Rapid excels in safety segment thanks to features like dual front airbags, hill hold control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), park distance control, engine immobilizer with floating code system, rough road package, fuel supply cut off in crash, automatic locking of doors on high speeds, front and rear fog lights, reverse parking camera, Parktronic sensor at rear etc.
