Skoda Kodiaq to launch in India by late 2017

As its debut is just around the corner, Skoda’s first ever full size SUV Kodiaq has been revealed at Tour De France this week. Along with the showcase flew of teasers have also been released indicating the launch is near while it may take another year and a half to reach Indian shores. The SUV will be first seen in its production ready avatar when it will make its debut on 1st September 2016 at Paris Motor show.

It is based on Skoda’s Vision S concept and will be sharing design elements from new superb executive sedan. The Kodiaq will contest in the premium segment against the likes of Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour and upcoming Honda CR-V and Volkswagen Taigun.

It is a Skoda’s first full fledge seven seater SUV in company’s 120 years of history and Speaking of the design, it manages to look impressive thanks to aggressive front profile, large overhangs and muscular stance. The Kodiaq will sport the loads of elements from new Superb such as front grille, sleeker LED headlamps, thick shoulder line and Czech crystal LED tail lamps. In addition, it gets 20 inch alloy wheels, LED fog lamps placed below the headlamp unit and roof rails.

Speaking of the gadgets and technology, Kodiaq is expected to come with flew of connectivity options such as Skoda connect infotainment screen with Android Auto, Apple car play, On board Wi-Fi, Smart gate, Google Earth and Mirror link. It will also feature with 360 degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, hands free tail gate, multiple airbags and much more. Additionally, it is also claims to offer best in class rear luggage space along with foldable 3rd row seats.

Under the hood, Kodiaq will receive range of powertrains (two petrol and three diesel), the most powerful of the lot would be the 2.0 litre TSI petrol developing 220bhp power. Apart from conventional engines, Skoda will be offering electric hybrid motor with Kodiaq. Transmission duties will be taken care by a 6-speed manual and DSG gearbox with 2WD as standard and optional AWD.

When launched in India, expect Skoda Kodiaq to be priced between Rs. 23 to 29 lakh (ex-showroom).
