Skoda’s next big thing Kodiaq SUV will be launched in India by mid this year and will compete against Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The SUV is listed on company’s official website and dealers have started accepting bookings for a token amount of Rs. 51,000. Deliveries of the SUV are expected by upcoming festive season.
The Kodiaq will be manufactured at company’s Aurangabad plant and is likely to be priced around Rs. 28-30 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV will be available in 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. Underpinning the same MQB platform the Kodiaq is based on the same MQB platform of Volkswagen Tiguan. It measures 4697mm long, 1882mm wide and 1676mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2791mm.
Skoda Kodiaq looks impressive it doesn’t have muscularity of Endeavour or Fortuner but it looks premium and classy. The SUV features LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, blackened front and rear bumper, three dimensional wide front grille with extensive use of chrome, side body cladding, massive windows with chrome underlining, panoramic sunroof, split LED tail lights.
The car is brimmed with range of convenience and comfort features such as Skoda connect touch screen infotainment system with Android auto, apple car play and satellite navigation. It will also get dual zone automatic climate control, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, engine start/stop button, electric tailgate, cruise control, electric child safety lock, six airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), ESP, park assist etc.
The Skoda Kodiaq will be available in three engines- one TSI and two TDI engines. The Petrol will get a 2.0l TSI motor delivering out 177bhp power and 320Nm of torque. The diesel TDI will feature direct turbocharged engine which will be available in two states of tune- churning out 147bhp and 340Nm along with 187bhp and 400Nm. Both the engines will be linked to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox along with AWD as option. The bigger diesel engine can make 0-100km/hr sprint in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/hr.
