Volvo cars India has announced the launch of new Volvo V40 luxury hatchback in India, with two variants. It has been launched in two variants- Kinetic and R-design, available only with a diesel engine now. This is the third launch for Volvo in India this year after V 40 Cross country and XC90 SUV. The new Volvo V40 is available at all Volvo dealerships across the country now and it compete with BMW 1 series and Mercedes A-class in entry level luxury car segment in India.

Price:

The all new Volvo V40 luxury hatchback is available in two variants- Kinetic, which is priced at Rs. 24.75 lakh while the R-design variant cost at Rs. 27.7 lakh. Both the prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

Engine details:

Powering the new hatchback is the same engine as seen on V 40 Cross country, a 2.0L, four cylinder D3 diesel engine producing 150bhp power@3750rpm and 350Nm of peak torque between 1750-3000rpm. With these numbers, Volvo V40 is the most powerful diesel hatchback in the segment. The engine imparts power to front wheels and it is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission and returns ARAI certified mileage of 16.8KMPL.

Space and dimensions:

The all new Volvo V40 luxury hatchback has the seating capacity of 5 persons measuring 4369mm in length, 2041mm of width; 1420mm tall with the wheelbase of 2647mm provides ample legroom and shoulder space to the occupants. The ground clearance of V40 is 136mm which 9mm less than the V40 cross country while it offers the luggage capacity of 324 liters.

Exterior and Interior:

The Overall silhouette of new V40 hatchback remains same as V40 Cross country hatchback but it gets a redesigned front fascia, new front black three slat grille and air dam with chrome accents, revised front bumper with LED DRLs, V shaped bonnet and sleek eagle eye shaped headlights. The side profile wears sharp shoulder line that starts from headlamp to the beltline, new alloy wheels while rear continues to flaunt typical Volvo design and dynamic looking profile. Rear gets glossy black finish diffuser, L shaped tail lights and the wedged out boot lid with Volvo embedded on it.

The new Volvo V40 also get fixed Panorama glass roof and a new exclusive paint shade for R-design trim while it misses out on skid plates, roof rails, side body cladding and raised ground clearance as compared to its crossover sibling. Overall, the design is very sober for a luxury hatchback.

On the inside, new V40 hatchback sport number of features such as power seats with memory, dual zone automatic climate control, reverse parking camera, Cruise control, interior ambient lighting, multi function steering, keyless entry, rain sensor and leather upholstery. It also get TFT instrument which changes color according to the driving mode- Eco, Elegance and Performance. The Quality of material is top notch and Glass roof creates a spacious large car feeling. The R-design trim gets the exterior and interior package.

Safety:

Safety has always been the strength of Volvo and V40 is also loaded with number of safety equipments. The car is equipped with seven airbags with pedestrian airbag (world’s first) to reduce injuries to the pedestrians, traction control, automatic braking, ABS, DSTC, side impact protection system, Whiplash protection in case of rear impact, ASC and the city safety system which automatically put brakes if driver fails to react within time.

The Volvo V40 comes to India via the CBU route and despite that, the pricing remains competitive as per the competition. The Volvo V40 hatchback will certainly get a petrol variant which returns 200PS power but at a later stage.
