Volvo S60 Cross Country

Kickstarting 2016, The Swedish carmaker Volvo has launched one of its kind vehicle S60 Cross country in India at a price tag of Rs. 38.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company has given the S60 sedan a bit of body cladding, higher ground clearance and off course the new name. The first Crossover sedan will lock its horns with Mercedes-Benz C- Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3-series.

Engine Details:

Under the bonnet is a 5-cylinder 2.4 litre D4 diesel engine that develops 188bhp power@4000rpm and 420Nm of peak torque between 1500-3000rpm. Power is sent to all wheels via a six speed automatic gearbox. However it gets a detuned engine because on S60 sedan the same engine develops 33bhp and 20Nm more power and torque.

Although the detuned engine hasn’t affected the performance segment of the Cross country as it can achieve 100km/hr from a standstill in just 8.8 seconds while offering a top speed of 210km/hr.

Space and Dimensions:

The Highlight of Volvo Cross country is raised ground clearance at 201mm up by full 65mm over the standard S60 sedan. The vehicle is 3mm longer and 42mm wider than S60 and dimensions now stands at 4368mm long, 1899mm wide, 1539 tall and rides on the wheelbase of 2774mm. The sedan also gets bigger 18 inch alloy wheels and optional 19 inches.

Exterior and Interior:

The Standard S60 is a handsome car with no non sense styling; equally proportionate dimensions, lean headlamps with DRLs, honeycomb front grille; short windows and L shaped LED tail lamps looks really nice. To give the sedan Crossover styling, Volvo has raised the ground clearance, provided body cladding runs across the car, faux skid plates and better alloy wheels which adds to the beefiness of the car.

The competitors of sedan especially Mercedes-C Class offers premium interiors but this is not the case with S60 Cross country. The Cabin is typical Volvo type and in terms of features you get 7 inch screen at the centre with satellite navigation, bluetooth hands free support. You also get comfort features such as dual Zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, electric front seats, and stellar audio system with AUX, USB amongst others.

Colors:

The premium Sedan is available in five color shades which are Onyx black metallic, Crystal white pearl, Rich Java metallic, Osmium grey and Bright Silver metallic.

Safety:

It is loaded with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from the premium sedan such as Hill descent control, city safety collision advance technology, electronic stability control (ESP), three point safety belt, park assist camera, park assist camera (Front and rear), hill start assist, two step front airbags, side and curtain airbags, emergency brake assist (EBA), whiplash protection and seat belt reminder for the front seats, reverse parking camera with sensors, speed sensitive power steering, tyre pressure monitoring system, rain sensor. There is also autonomous braking system from up to 50km/hr, cut off switch for passenger airbag and cruise control.
