With 98 percent local content, Kwid has been launched at a starting price of Rs. 2.57 lakh for the base STD variant. The Top spec RXT (O) variant cost at Rs. 3.53 lakh which means you will get a fully loaded variant of Kwid at an on road price of around Rs. 4 lakh. In terms of pricing, Renault has certainly nailed it.

*All prices are of ex-showroom Delhi.

Engine Details:

Despite of having SUV like design, the small car is powered by a 3-cylinder, 799cc petrol engine which is capable of producing 53bhp power@5678rpm and peak torque of 72Nm@4386rpm. The engine comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox and it is rated to deliver 25.83 KMPL of ARAI certified mileage that makes it the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country. Helping Kwid to achieve this fuel economy is its 660 kg of light kerb weight and 85 bhp/ ton power to weight ratio.

Space and Dimensions:

The Renault Kwid is a proper five seater hatchback measuring 3679mm in length, 1579mm in width and 1478mm in height. The 2422mm of longer wheelbase ensures that occupants get sufficient amount of legroom and shoulder space. It has a class leading ground clearance of 180mm which is more than sufficient to tackle bad Indian roads. In addition, the Kwid is also offering massive 300 liters of boot space.

Exterior and Interior:

Renault has given Kwid hatchback the butch styling which can be easily mistaken for a compact SUV. The front end is quite similar to Duster with stubby nose, twin slate honey comb mesh grille enclosed with large Renault’s Logo at the centre, squared off headlamps and circular fog lamps flanked by black cladding.

Moving to the sides, that reflects its crystal clear SUV monocoque with black flared wheel arches, a thick black stripe on the doors along with the higher ground clearance. The rear gets friendly hatchback appearance with black bumper, body colored rear spoiler, company’s logo resting at the centre of boot lid and faux LED tail lights adding to the SUV-ish element of the Kwid.

Being available in six variants– STD, RxE, RxE(O), RxL, RxT and RxT(O) the Renault Kwid sports an airy cabin much like its SUV sibling Duster. Renault has given a dull grey shade to the cabin which is enhanced by Piano black finish at central console. The quality of materials and touch looks average or we can say at par with the competition.

In terms of features, it comes with first in segment 7 inch MediaNAV touchscreen infotainment system supports range of functions like bluetooth telephony, USB, Aux-in, navigation with turn by turn voice guidance. There is also a first in segment digital instrument cluster on board which flaunts valuable info like gear shift indicator, distance to empty, average speed and average fuel consumption. The AC, chunky power steering wheel, twin glove boxes and spacious cabin are some of the other highlights.

Colors:

The Entry level hatchback is available in five different color shades which are Fiery Red, Planet Grey, Outback bronze, Ice cool white and moonlight silver.

Safety:

Even though Kwid is available with some best in segment features but it misses out on even basic safety aids like it get a driver side airbag on the top variant only as an option. ABS (Anti-lock braking system) and EBD are also absent from Renault Kwid which is a disappointing thing. However, it do come with features like engine immobilizer, front fog lamps, front-rear seat belts, remote keyless entry with central locking and high mounted stop lamp.
