The facelift Skoda Superb had already launched internationally on 3rd April 2013 and now it has also made its debut in India on February 10th, 2014 at ongoing Auto Expo 2014. Along with Skoda’s this facelift model, company also showcased its other cars including Rapid, Yeti etc. Let’s see what Superb’s facelift model gets.
Price:
The new price range of Superb in India is 18.62-24.80 lakhs while it had launched in UK with the base price of 19,680 pounds i.e. around 19.5 lakhs.
Brand Value:
Skoda’s car are said to be the premium cars in India, but in contrary of this, it is also well known for its higher prices, poor after-sale services. Still, it is known as a premium brand because of its product’s prices which are comparatively higher than others, and also it provides so much luxuriant features and attractive glimpse as well in its product.
Engine details:
The facelift Superb is equipped with two advanced engine options: one is diesel while another is petrol. These engine variants are 1.8 TSI petrol and 2.0 TDI diesel churning out the max power output of 158.2bhp and 138.1bhp respectively and mated with both manual and automatic transmission gearboxes as optional.
Also Skoda approved that this new facelift version comes with the improvement of over 19% of fuel efficiency in some engine variants. The existing Superb India is giving the mileage of 13.1-13.7 km/l in petrol variant and 17.2 km/l in diesel and same is expected with this facelift version too.
Space:
It has dimension of 4833mm*1817mm*1482mm along with the clear height of 159 mm. It has seating capacity for five passengers with the boot space of 565 liters which can be extended up to 1700 liters after folding the seats.
Interior:
It has the standard features which includes 3 headrests rear, 4-spoke leather multi-function steering wheel with audio controls on it, air conditioned glove box, alarm with interior monitoring and with tilt sensor, chrome inner door handles, cup holders, front armrest, storage compartment in the doors, headlight range adjustment, height adjustable driver + passenger seats, split folding rear seats, storage box under passenger seats, storage pockets on the rear of front seats, vanity mirror.
The list doesn’t end here, it also has 12V socket in mid console and boot, 3.5mm aux socket, 8 loudspeakers, cruise control, power windows with child safety system, remote central locking, manual air conditioning, 2-din radio with single CD, bluetooth, tinted glass.
Exterior:
This new Superb seems to have clean lines and distinctive designs from looking outside. Its impressive front boasts a modified and fresh new look with a much broad chrome front grille including new SKODA logo along with refined body color bumpers, front wings and power panoramic sunroofs.
The re-designed bi-xenon headlights are very much highlighting its strong C-shape. It is well equipped with 16 inches spectrum alloys 7, black roof rails, daylight running lights, door mirrors (electrically adjustable), aero windscreen wipers at front, front fog lights, rear LED lights etc.
Road handling & Safety:
Safety wise, it has that entire required features which is needed by a buyer, also with many more premium features like Hill Hold Control, eight airbags, three point safety belts and height adjustable headrests etc.
Passenger airbag de-activation switch, electronic engine immobilizer, ABS with EBD, door open indicator, speed warning indicator, gear change recommendation etc are well embellished in this face-lifted Superb like its predecessor.
It has a strong braking system including disc brakes with inner cooling at front and disc brakes at rear, along with manual handbrakes on rear wheels. The ride of existing Superb in India is said to be a little stiff at low speeds but improves on increasing the speed. This face-lifted sedan is expected to accelerate 0-100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds with the top speed of 250km/h like its predecessor.
Verdict:
Superb is a wonderful sedan by Skoda which offers engine variability, luxuriant interior, exterior as well as safety features and deserves to be a good competitor in its segment. As it’s a facelift version, we could only expect for better improvements with not much increment in price and company has also tried to fulfill the same, though.
