Mitsubishi has finally taken the wraps off the all new Pajero Sport at Bangkok International Grand motor sale in Thailand. The mid-size SUV get an update after seven years since its arrival and it debuts with many new technologies and equipments for the Mitsubishi. The company will launch this new model in up to 90 countries starting with Thailand later this year followed by Australia, ASEAN countries, Latin America, Africa and Russia. An Indian launch is expected around or after Auto expo in 2016.
The new Pajero sport uses a “Dynamic shield” front end design concept which includes a lot of use of chrome. Design wise, it has sleek headlights with LED daytime running lights, new bumper design, GR-HEV inspired X-shaped front grille with chrome slats and Mitsubishi logo in the middle. There are large C-shaped chrome inserts around the circular fog lamps backed by large air inducts which makes the new Pajero stand out.
On the sides, the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport flaunts a not so SUV-ish kind of profile while getting features like ORVMs with turn indicators, side steps, huge wheel arches and long creases. At the back you get vertically tail lights taken inspiration from GR-HEV concept, redesigned tailgate and chrome number plate but frankly speaking it doesn’t look attractive at all.
The cabin of new Pajero Sport is something we’ve witnessed earlier on Mitsubishi Triton like a black dashboard with silver inserts, new four spoke multifunction steering wheel, glossy central console with a touchscreen unit supporting multi-around camera system, dual zone climate control, roof mounted screen, black leather upholstery which gives it the needed premium feel.
In terms of safety it comes with some advanced features like seven airbags, traction control, hill descent control, blind spot warning, forward collision mitigation system and many more.
The 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is 4785mm long increased by 90mm, 1815mm wide same as the current while height is reduced by 35mm now stands at 1805mm. The new vehicle offers 2800mm of wheelbase and 218mm of ground clearance.
Powering the new Pajero Sport will be an all new 2.4L turbo diesel engine is good enough for 181PS power and 430Nm of torque, mated to an eight speed automatic transmission and comes with a super select 4WD II four wheel drive system. The company also claims that the new vehicle is 17 percent more fuel efficient than the ongoing model.
