Chevrolet has finally taken the curtains off the 2016 Cruze saloon that will be launching in more than 40 countries including India. The 2016 Cruze will go first on sale in America in early 2016 followed by other countries. The new GEN model has been designed from the scratch, flaunts all new design inspired by Chevrolet Volt electric. Apart from the new exterior, 2016 Cruze comes with upgraded interior and new range of powerful engines.
The current Cruze model features muscular looks, decent interiors and powerful diesel engine but as the time passes the sales and craze of Cruze started to diminish as other car makers came up with affordable and value for money product. The Current GEN model is certainly due for long update and now Chevrolet has revealed new Cruze.
The 2016 Cruze is now longer by 68mm and carries a wheelbase of 2700mm which results in more space inside. Despite of extended length, GM has managed shed about 113 Kg off the new model as compared to the outgoing one. However, the overall height of new GEN Cruze has been reduced by 26mm due to its sleeker silhouette.
The front now boasts an aggressive styling than before with redesigned bumpers, sleeker swept back projector headlights with LED daytime running lights inspired by Camaro, aerodynamic thin grille and wide hexagonal air dam with integrated fog lamps. The boxy Side of current Chevy has been replaced with bounty of flowing cease lines and sides of new Chevy now has revised 17 inch alloy wheels, ORVMs on doors with turn indicators.
The rear profile has sporty bumper with restyled horizontal tail lights and shark fin antenna to round off the exterior design of new Chevy. On the inside, it features modern dashboard with piano black finish central console and 7-inch Mylink infotainment touchscreen which sports Apple car play and Android auto. The GM is also offering optional 8-inch screen with navigation and rear view camera assistance.
Some Other features that will be the part and parcel of new Cruze are heated rear seats, 4.2 inch driver side MID, wireless phone charging, 4G LTE WI-Fi.
In terms of safety it gets 10 airbags, forward collision alert, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, ABS, ESP, active rollover protection, reverse camera, side blind zone alert etc.
The new Cruze is likely to be powered by a 1.4L turbo petrol engine which churns out 153PS power and 240Nm of max torque mated to six speed manual and automatic transmissions. The new improved can accelerate 0-100 km in just 8 seconds with the claimed fuel efficiency of 17.1 KMPL.
Chevrolet is expected to launch new Cruze in 2017 to take on the likes of Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis, and Skoda Octavia etc. Pricing could remain in the same range for the new GEN model.
