It seems the home grown automajor Tata Motors is getting aggressive with its product strategy for India. Besides launching new products like Zest, Bolt and GenX Nano, Company is also boosting some of its present vehicles. In the coming months, Tata will launch the Kite twins (hatchback and sedan) followed by Hexa SUV during the 2016 Indian Auto expo. Tata that launched facelift version of Safari in June of this year is now pepping up for the more powerful version of the SUV.
Despite of being a good car than the previous model it has not been able to make wave like it should have. Facelift’s engine was updated to produce more power at 148bhp and 320Nm of max torque. Safari Storme has been losing out to its main rival Mahindra Scorpio in terms of sales for a while now.
In order to make their sole SUV a much better product in the segment, company has decided to equip it with more powerful engine. The Safari Strome with 400 VARICOR has been spied uncamouflaged hinting on being launched very soon, most probably by 15th of next month. The new version is expected to sit on top as an additional variant on the current line-up. It can be had in top VX trim only with both 4×2 and 4×4 drive trains.
The VARICOR engine churns out 7bhp power and 80Nm more torque than the current ongoing model. While the power will be send to all wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox along with shift on fly four wheel drive.
Apart from mechanical upgrades, it will not get any change on the exterior front except for the VARICOR 400 badges while interior too expected to remain same. We think there is certainly a massive room for improvement especially on interior front; SUV needs a touchscreen infotainment system that will put it in line with its competitors.
On the pricing aspect, we expect it cost around Rs. 13.40 lakhs (ex-showroom).
