Mercedes-Benz today has launched the GLS SUV replacing the GL class which was launched in India way back in 2010. Priced at Rs. 80.4 lakh (ex-showroom Pune), it will be manufactured at company’s Plant in Chakan Pune. The Seven seat full size SUV is one of the product among the 12 new launches company has planned for the Indian market. First debuted at the last year’s Los angles motor show, the new model is radically different from the previous one.

The GLS will be locking its horns with Volvo XC90 and Audi Q7. Just to let you know, the SUV will not be on sale in Delhi NCR region due to ban on the new registrations of over 2000cc diesel vehicles.

Engine Details:

Talking about the powertrains, the premium SUV is powered by a 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine that belts out 255PS of max power@3400rpm and 620Nm of high torque between 1600 and 2400rpm, paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Power is send to all four wheels via 4MATIC all wheel drive system.

The powerhouse engine lets SUV to move from a standstill to 100km/hr mark in just 7.8 seconds and offers a top speed of 222km/hr. The SUV is available with dynamic select including five driving modes- Sport, comfort, Slippery, individual and Off-road.

Space and Dimensions:

Dimensionally, the SUV is 5130mm long, 1934mm wide, 1850mm tall and rides on the wheelbase of 3075mm. The GLS house has cargo space of 680 liters which can be stretched up to 2300 liters.

Exterior and Interior:

The SUV retains its road presence and aroma under a slight new body kit such as new twin slat front grille with larger three star logo flanked by sportier bumper. The new multi-beam headlamps with LED daytime running lights and air intakes are wider and make front fascia more aggressive. The side profile is unchanged expect for the ten spoke 20 inch alloy wheels and side sill trim. At rear, it bears new LED tail lamps and tweaked bumper.

The cabin has been revised to enhance the luxury quotient as it is dipped in high grade wooden texture and leather upholstery with various options to choose from. The GLS also feature redesign central console with touchpad, 8 inch touchscreen with command online system, Apple car play, reverse parking camera display and Smartphone integration to atop the dash. The steering wheel has been updated as well it is now wears three spoke instead of four spoke and comes wrapped in Nappa leather and paddle shifters. It also features panoramic sliding sunroof, ionization system for better quality air inflow, Designo Nappa leather upholstery, three rows, three zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting with three color choices.

As expected from Mercedes range of cars, GLS also comes with range of upholstery options such as Artico espresso brown, Artico black leather, Artico man made ginger, espresso brown leather.

Colors:

The Full Size SUV is available in six graceful colors- Cavansite blue, Designo Diamond white bright, Obsidian black, Citrine brown, Iridium Silver and Tenorite grey.

Safety:

Mercedes-Benz is offering heaps of safety features on GLS SUV such as multiple airbags, active parking assist with 360 degree camera, electronic all wheel drive (AWD) traction system with 4ETS, ESP, cruise control, autonomous braking, lane keep assist, crosswind assist, active blind spot, attention assist, ESP, collision prevention assist, Pre-Safe brake with pedestrian detection and DISTRONIC PLUS with steering assist.
