After the launch of E Class LWB, the German carmaker Mercedes-Benz has launched a new variant of the car dubbed as E220d. Priced at Rs. 57.70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), it will be positioned below E350d in the lineup. With the introduction, there will be three choices available- E200 petrol at Rs. 56.7 lakh and E350d diesel at Rs. 70.15 lakh (both prices are of ex-showroom Delhi).
The aluminum motor of E220d weighs 168kg which is lighter by 31kg and it is also the first sub 2-litre engine that is made in India. With the wheelbase of 3079mm, it has the longest wheelbase in its segment. The car will take on the likes of BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Volvo S90 and the Jaguar XF in India.
The E200d is powered by a 2.0l 4-cylinder diesel mill that makes 194PS power and 400Nm of torque. Sending power to rear wheels is a 9-speed automatic transmission. This luxury sedan can make 0-100km/hr sprint in just 7.8 seconds with the top speed of 240km/hr. The sedan comes with four different drive modes – Eco, Comfort, Sports and sports plus.
The new variant will come with almost similar features such as 12.3 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple car play, COMAND ONLINE and Burmester 3D surround sound system. Other features include automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, leather wrapped steering wheel with touch controls, command and navigation controls.
Mercedes-Benz has also given memory function for the rear passengers with 37 degree recline function and three seating positions. In terms of safety, it comes equipped with seven airbags, traction control, electronic stability program, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution), reverse parking camera and much more.
