The SUV segment is ravishing nowadays with more and more companies introducing various SUV’s to grab some amount of market share in the segment. The largest car maker of India ‘Maruti Suzuki’ is also planning to step into the SUV segment with its Two SUV’s by 2016. Earlier Maruti had introduced SUV’s like Grand Vitara and Gypsy, but it didn’t contribute to the sales of Maruti as excepted.
Maruti analyzing the recent trend has now decided to increase their SUV’s market segment. The first SUV excepted by Maruti will be SX 4 S-Cross which was shown in 2014 Indian Auto Expo which is already running on USA and European roads with decent success. In India it is on Road test process which is likely to launch in January 2015.
SX 4 S-cross will be mated with 1.6L Petrol and Diesel engines. Petrol trim will make 118BHP power and 156nm torque, while Diesel will give 118BHP power and 320nm torque. Price of SX 4 S-cross might be around Rs. 10 lakhs, though it is not confirmed yet. SX 4 S-cross will compete against Ford Eco sport and Renault Duster.
Another most anticipated launch would be Maruti XA Alpha which was shown in 2012 Auto Expo since then it has vanished. But now, with Maruti’s confirmation it is likely to launch in sub 4 Meter segment with two engine options i.e. 1.2L K series petrol and 1.3L Multijet Diesel engine. XA Alpha might be equipped with all wheel drive.
Whether both these cars will able to fulfill Maruti’s absence in SUV segment? Time will tell but one thing is sure that SX 4 S-cross and XA Alpha will give series challenge to Eco sport, Duster and other cars of this segment.
