After successfully cracking the compact SUV segment, Maruti is pumped for Micro SUV division with its much anticipated Ignis. MSIL has dropped the first teaser of the Maruti Ignis on its NEXA website and if reports are to believed Ignis will officially hit the Indian shores on January 13, 2017. Once launched, it will be slotted against the Mahindra KUV100 and upcoming Datsun Go-Cross with an expected introductory price of Rs. 5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Ignis will be sold via Nexa dealerships and will share the same space with S-Cross and Baleno. The Ignis has already made its Indian debut in a production ready form at 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year. The crossover was first scheduled for the festive season but strong demand of Baleno and Vitara Brezza postponed the launch by early next year.
The Micro SUV measures 3700 mm in length, 1660 mm in width and 1595 mm in height. The Ignis sits on the wheelbase of 2435mm along with the ground clearance of 180mm. Like Vitara Brezza, Ignis is also expected to come in dual tone exterior paint schemes along with i-customization scheme.
Maruti Ignis will share the engines of Baleno premium hatchback- 1.2l K series Kappa petrol and 1.3l DDis diesel. The petrol is capable of delivering 83bhp power and 115Nm of torque while the tried and tested diesel is good for 89bhp and 200Nm of max torque. Both the engines will get 5-speed manual as standard while AGS/CVT could be offered with petrol. The diesel is expected to be clubbed with SHVS technology.
The tall boy comes loaded with handful of features including projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple car play, Android auto and navigation, 50:50 rear bench, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and much more.
