It looks like Maruti’s newly launched Sedan is bringing back the acche din (Good Days) of Maruti in most competent C2 segment and all set to be another success story from India’s largest selling car manufacturer. Maruti is not so successful in C2 segment with Baleno and SX4, though the latter one has tasted some commercial success but both of them were not able to hit the right chord and able to deliver the magic sales figures for which Maruti Suzuki is famous for.
Maruti has managed to retail 6,345 units of Ciaz in comparison to segment Dominator City’s 5120 units, falling behind by 1225 units. New Honda City has been successful since its January shipping more than 7000 units per month peaking at March with more than 9500 units sold.
Honda city’s Production is getting hampered with due to the extreme popularity of its MPV Honda Mobilio; don’t get surprised it is true. Honda is busy in fulfilling the high demands of its MPV due to this City’s production had been stopped in the month of August. Still City’s production is frequently slow due to same reason i.e. high demand rate of Mobilio.
Maruti Ciaz has some unique points, due to which it outscored City in sales figures though it is too early to say that it is a clear winner. Maruti Ciaz is more affordable than City, Ciaz starts at 6.99 lakh against City’s Rs. 7.19 lakhs. Even the top variant of Ciaz is way competitively priced than Honda city; Top variant of Ciaz is available at Rs. 9.80 lakh as compared to City’s Rs. 11.05 lakhs.
Ciaz is available in both the fuel units Petrol and Diesel; it is available in ten variants- Six petrol and four Diesel including an Automatic variant. Though engines are underpowered as compared to city’s powerful engines but attractive exterior color, long list of features and spacious cabin are some main catchy points about Ciaz but the main is aggressive pricing strategy.
Differential Points | Maruti Ciaz | Honda City |
Power (BHP) Petrol/ Diesel | 91/89 | 117/98.8 |
Torque (Nm) Petrol/ Diesel | 130/200 | 145/200 |
Mileage Petrol/ Diesel (Km/L) | 20.73/17.8 | 26.21/26 |
Transmission | 5MT/4AT | 5MT/5CVT |
By looking at the specs above clearly Ciaz is way behind in power terms in both the trims but higher fuel efficiency and catchy design technology is creating intense hype among the masses which we have seen in first month report of Ciaz though it is too early to predict anything about the fate of both the cars.
