Mahindra and Mahindra has been testing automatic version of Scorpio for a while and there had been relentless reports on the web regarding the launch of AT Scorpio in 2015. However, after months of testing and number of spy shots it seems that Mahindra Scorpio AT launch is just around the corner. The automatic variant will be available only on the S10 top range in 2WD and AWD systems.

According to dealer level trusted sources, Scorpio AT has been opened for pre-bookings. Though some sources also claims that Mahindra Scorpio AT has been launched at Rs. 13.13 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the 2WD variant and 14.33 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the S10 AWD trim. It means, the automatic gearbox has added Rs. 1 lakh to the price of the SUV. Mahindra launched the new GEN Scorpio in September last year and it has been getting really good response from the buyers.

Mahindra and Mahindra feels it is a right time to launch Scorpio AT as Hyundai’s upcoming compact SUV Creta will be looking to eat the market share of Scorpio. The reason behind it is the Creta being equipped with a five speed automatic gearbox and If Mahindra manages to launch Scorpio AT before Creta then the battle between will become really interesting.

Powering the new AT Scorpio is the same 2.2L mhawk diesel engine that churns out 120bhp power@4000rpm and 280Nm of torque between 1800-2800rpm. The SUV now uses a 6-speed Aisin Hydraulic gearbox which does the duty on SsangYong Tivoli.

Besides ‘Automatic’ monikers on the tailgate and sides of the vehicle, Mahindra Scorpio AT will retain most of the design cues of manual variants. On the inside, Scorpio AT is expected to carry all the bells and whistles of manual variant including a 6-inch infotainment system with in-built navigation, bluetooth, USB, Aux-in etc, fully automatic air control, power window buttons and many more.

The AT Scorpio will sit as a top variant in the line-up so expect an array of safety features including dual airbags, ABS, digital engine immobilizer, EBD etc. Mahindra Scorpio AT will be manufactured only on made to order basis with the waiting period of 30-45 days for delivery. Mahindra is yet to make an official announcement about the AT variant of Scorpio.
