After displaying at 12th Auto Expo in India, Toyota Kirloskar finally launched the much awaited crossover namely Etios Cross on 7th May 2014. It is being said that Etios Cross is basically a crossover and sporty version of company’s other ongoing hatchback Etios Liva. While critics are seeing it as one of the deserving competitors in same segment, Toyota also seems to justify the sayings of critics by offering this crossover at base price of 5.76 lakhs.
Price:
The Etios Cross is available with both petrol and diesel trims and having overall four variants which carry respective price tags of 5.76 lakhs (G petrol), 6.90 lakhs (GD diesel), 7.35 lakhs (V petrol) and 7.40 lakhs (VD diesel).
Engine details:
As mentioned above the all-new Etios Cross gets petrol and diesel mills. The petrol model has two variants namely G and V while diesel trim on the other hand also gets two variants namely GD and VD. The noticeable thing here is that company offers two sizes of petrol engine in this new car.
While the smaller petrol unit equipped in variant G is a 1.2 liter, 1197cc 4-cylinder DOHC developing max power of 78.9bhp and 104Nm of peak torque, the bigger petrol mill is powered in variant V which is of 1.5 liter 4-cylinder displaces 1496cc churning out max output and torque of 88.7bhp and 132Nm respectively.
Contrary, the one and only diesel mill equipped in both GD and VD trims is 1364cc, 1.4 liter 4-cylinder D-4D responsible to produce 67.07bhp and 170Nm of max power and torque respectively.
All the variants are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox and offers claimed mileage of 17.71 km/l (G), 16.78 km/l (V) and impressive 23.59 km/l (in GD and VD).
Space & Dimension:
The Toyota’s crossover is carrying seating capacity for five passengers. It is 3895mm long, 1735mm wide and 1555mm tall which also has wheelbase of 2460mm, fuel tank capacity of 45 liters and min. turning radius of 4.8m. The luggage capacity in this car is 251 liters which seems li’l congested and could be improved.
Interior:
At inside cabin, it gets AC with heater, electric power steering and power windows, central locking, cooled glove box, rear defogger, audio system with remote along with USB (in all variants) while Aux-in and Bluetooth in top-end ones. Further this crossover is also designed with driver n passenger sun visor, digital clock, piano black interior theme with sporty seat fabric etc.
Exterior:
Though, the new crossover is just a rugged version of company’s hatchback Liva but still looking trendier and sportier. If compares to Liva hatch, then it gets refined grille, all-new front as well as rear bumper along with a guard, fog lamps with integrated turn indicators, ORVMs, plastic cladding on wheel arches, intermittent wiper, roof mounted antenna and roof rails etc.
Color Options:
Toyota unveiled this car in attractive Orange while it also gets seven more color options. These are Blue, Black, Red, Grey, White, Silver and Black.
Safety:
Coming to car’s safety where Toyota usually never disappoints its customers. This new Etios Cross is equipped with safety devices like dual SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, immobilizer etc.
Verdict:
Remanufacturing an ongoing model into sportier crossover version has become a well appealing trend by the car makers now-a-days. While VW and Fiat have already made a move towards this, Toyota also is in list now. This crossover definitely can attract customers and give satisfactory sales figures to the company; the reason is its price and Toyota’s image in Indian car market.
