The new generation Hyundai Verna has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs. 7.99 lakh and Rs. 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). However, these prices are applicable for first 20,000 customers only post that Hyundai will increase the prices. In its fifth generation, new Verna is available in four variants and two engine and gearbox options. It comes with several cosmetic changes and new features, will take on Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen new Vento.
Engine Details:
Hyundai has discontinued the 1.4l engines, new Verna will only be available with 1.6l petrol and diesel engines. The Petrol engine delivers 123bhp power@6400rpm and 151Nm of peak torque between 1500-3000rpm. The 1.6l diesel U2 CRDI engine makes 126bhp power@4000rpm and 260Nm torque between 1500-3000rpm. Both engines are linked to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel delivers an ARAI rated mileage of 24.75 Kmpl while petrol is good for 17.70 Kmpl. The bigger engines would definitely give new Verna edge over its competitors.
Space and Dimensions:
At tape, the 2017 Verna is 65mm longer, 29mm wider and has a 30mm longer wheelbase as compared to the outgoing model. The new Gen Verna now measures 4440mm in length, 1729mm in width, and 1475mm in height. The sedan offers wheelbase of 2600mm and boot space of 480 litres.
Exterior and Interior:
New Verna’s design has been completely revised; it now resembles its elder sibling Elantra with a similar Family face. The front flaunts new multi slate front grille with chrome touch, sleek projector headlamps with LED DRLs and fog lamps. Sides showcase similar silhouette with new chrome plated door handles, black B pillars, and new 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The rear now sports dual tone bumper, elegant looking tail lamps and shark fin antenna.
As said, new Verna comes with updated feature list such new 7.0 inch touchscreen system with Apple car play, Android Auto, first in segment ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, electrically adjusted ORVMs, hands free boot opening, dual USB charging points, rear curtains, eco coating for scent control, rear ac vents etc. Hyundai has also added an electric sunroof, electric power steering, cruise control, clutch footrest, front-rear power windows, cooled glove box, battery saver and much more.
Colors:
The Next Gen Verna is available in seven colours which are Fiery Red, Siena brown, Phantom black, sleek silver, Stardust, Polar White and Flame Orange.
Safety:
Dual front airbags, ABS (Anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake force distribution) come as standard across all trims. The Top spec variant gets six airbags, park assist with rear parking sensors, reverse camera with guidelines, projector fog lamps, clutch lock, impact and speed sensing auto door lock, keyless entry, rear fogger with timer, height adjustable front seats, Immobilizer, seat belt pre-tensioners with limiters, burglar alarm, and much more.
