Hyundai is one of those car makers which consists wide range of products from entry level hatchback EON to Premium SUV Santa Fe. Hyundai is always known for its quality and brilliant design products like recently launched Elite i20 which gathered over 60,000 bookings in four months since its launch plus adjudged with Indian Car of the year award (ICOTY). In November 2014 Hyundai has sold over 10,000 units of Elite i20 and now it seems another blockbuster is on the way to make it to the Indian roads soon.
Hyundai enjoys more than decent amount of Market share in Indian automotive majorly contributed by Hatchback and sedan segment. Hyundai has no product in SUV segment, So Hyundai has decided to launch ix25 compact SUV in 2015 with the investment of over 1000 crore.
Ix25 will the first ever compact SUV from Korean car maker and it will try to repeat the success of its sedan and hatchbacks which they are achieving since 17 years. This compact SUV will take on Ford Eco Sport, Duster and it will be built on 90% localization in order to be price it competitively.
Apart from this compact SUV Hyundai will also launch Elite i20 crossover and Hyundai Verna which is also scheduled to make its way in the second or third quarter of 2015 followed by a MPV in 2016 which will take on Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio.
Ix25 SUV based concept was first unveiled at the Beijing Motor show followed by its global Debut in China few months ago at the price of 11.95-17.93 lakh according to China’s price. But Indian spec ix25 will be priced a ted lower than the Chinese ones around 8-10 lakhs.
Baby Santa Fe looking ix25 is based on Hyundai’s advance 2.0 fluidic design philosophy equipped with Projector headlamps with daytime running lights, diamond cut alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, electrically adjustable Outer rear view mirrors, hexagonal grille, big air dams etc which makes it a blend of Elite i20 and Santa Fe.
On the inside ix25 the design will be same as its big brother Santa Fe and features like automatic climate control, cruise control, steering mounted control, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and reverse parking assistance, airbags, ABS, EBD, TCS, keyless go, panoramic sunroof etc.
In China Ix25 is offered in 1.6L and 2.0L petrol engines paired to 6 speed manual and automatic transmission with both front wheel drive and all wheel drive options. But as far as Indian specifications are concerned it could source power from 1.6L petrol and diesel engines which we have seen in Verna. Ix25 is 4270 mm long so it is not a compact SUV and also it might not get the benefit excise duty as it is not a sub 4 metre SUV like Ford Eco Sport.
