2015 is going to be a raining crossover season it seems every car manufacture wants to be the part of bandwagon of the most promising segment in the Indian market i.e. Crossovers. This time around Hyundai is planning to enter into the market with recently launched Elite i20 based crossover. Hyundai has been testing i20 based Crossover from quite a while now; every now and then one can read the news related to spy shots of i20 cross.
According to a prestige newspaper Hyundai has confirmed the launch of Elite i20 based crossover in first Q3 of 2015. Everyone is expecting the Hyundai ix25 SUV will launch first as it was showcased in many auto expos and recently launched in China and doing very well. Hyundai have different plan i20 cross will take on Ford Eco Sport, Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat’s latest Avventura and Maruti’s Upcoming Sx4 cross while ix25 will lock its horns with Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.
Going by what Spy spots are showing though it is almost fully camouflaged but i20 Cross will have number of changes like:
- Roof Rails
- Daytime running lights
- New Alloy wheels
- Redesigned front grille
- Projector headlamps
- Side claddings
- Higher ground clearance
Elite i20 crossover will share the same power trains as the Elite i20 which are 1.2L Kappa petrol engine which gives 83bhp power and 115Nm torque, while 1.4L Crdi diesel engine churns out 90bhp power and 220Nm torque, crossover will come equipped with 5 and 6 speed manual transmission while there is not official news about an automatic transmission, though 4 speed AT could be offered with petrol trim.
We expect Hyundai to price i20 cross between 6.3-8 lakh though it will be around 50,000 more than its hatchback sibling. Apart from that Hyundai will launch Verna facelift in the next year to tackle the growing popularity of Maruti Ciaz and Honda City.
