Hyundai has been testing i20 Cross for a while now, every now and then i20 cross has been spotted near company’s Chennai plant. Few days ago Elite i20 based crossover was spotted in all new color which is almost similar to Avventura’s Bronzo Tan body paint color. Hyundai will launch New Verna on 16th February 2015 but after the launch of new Verna, the Korean car maker will launch i20 cross on March 9, 2015.
Based on Elite i20 hatchback this new Crossover will sport some cosmetic changes like roof rails, raised height, side body cladding, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, new alloy wheels, redesigned bumpers, front-rear skid plates, better ground clearance etc.
I20 cross to get some exclusive and new body paint colors as well and some interior tweaks are also expected. In terms of safety it will get dual front airbags, ABD, keyless entry, reverse parking sensors with display assistance etc.
Under the hood i20 crossover to retain same power trains of its hatchback sibling with 1.2L Kappa2 petrol offering 83bhp power and 115Nm torque coupled with a 6 speed manual transmission, while 1.4L CRDI diesel mill producing 89bhp power and 220Nm torque paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox.
Elite i20 cross is Hyundai’s first entry into the small yet growing segment of crossovers which is set to compete with Toyota Etios Cross, Cross Polo, Fiat Avventura and upcoming Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-cross.
But Hyundai might alter i20 cross engines for better power and higher torque as compared to its hatchback sibling. After the launch of i20 cross Hyundai will launch ix25 compact SUV near Diwali which will rival Renault Duster, Ford Eco Sport etc.
Exact pricing of i20 cross is not confirmed yet but expect I20 cross to be price 50000-70000 higher than the hatchback between price range of Rs. 6.5-9 lakh (ex-showroom).
