Honda, the Indian arm of Japanese automaker has unveiled WR-V crossover for the Indian market at 2016 Sao Paulo motor show. Production version the same was showcased at company’s Tapukura plant, Rajasthan in an official roll out ceremony. As per recent reports, Honda will launch WR-V (Winsome Runabout Vehicle) in India on 16th March 2017. However, the company hasn’t made any official announcement yet but expected to make soon.
Being first compact Crossover from Honda, it will compete against the likes of Fiat Avventura, Hyundai i20 active and even Ford EcoSport and Vitara Brezza. Honda has acquired 380 acres of land in Gujarat which will company’s third manufacturing production facility after Greater Noida and Tapukara.
The Jazz based crossover sports new aggressive muscular bumpers, headlights with black inserts, front grille with thick chrome grille and the new set of alloy wheels to enhance the appeal of WR-V. Besides, elements like lower body panels, faux skid plates on front-rear bumpers, black cladding on wheel arches and roof rails add to the SUV characteristics to WR-V. In terms of interior styling and features it is expected to be based on Honda BR-V.
The WR-V will come with petrol and diesel powertrains with familiar range. The petrol will sport a 1.2l iVTEC engine that generates 89bhp power@6000rpm and 109Nm of torque@4500rpm. The diesel motor will bear a 1.5l i-DTEC motor that churns out 99bhp power@3600rpm and 200Nm of torque@1750rpm.
Transmission duties will be taken care by a 5/6 speed manual and CVT gearbox. In addition, it might feature a brawny 1.5l i-VTEC petrol engine. Honda’s new compact sensation is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 7.2-11 lakh (ex-showroom).
