Faulty Airbag inflators: Honda recalls over 1.9 lakh vehicles in India

Honda cars list of vehicle recall is getting bigger as company has announced yet another massive recall that will affect over 1.90 lakh cars in India. The good news is that the affected ones are Old gen models as none of them is on sale currently. As a part of global recall, 1, 90,578 cars have been recalled to replace faulty front airbag inflators of City, Civic, Accord and Jazz.

Below is the detailed numbers of recalled models with number of units and manufacturing period:-

The replacement will be carried out free of cost at Honda dealerships across the country in a phased manner but the replacement operation for Civic and CR-V will begin from immediate effect. The campaign for other remaining models would initiate from September 2016. Honda will contact the owners of affected vehicles directly.

Furthermore, customers can itself check their cars come under the scrutiny or not by just submitting their 17 character alpha numeric vehicle identification number (VIN) on the special micro site created on company’s official website (www.hondacarsindia.com).

The Takata had been the one of the largest airbag inflator supplier for most of the leading car manufacturers but the sad part is that over 40 million vehicles have been recalled across the globe to replace the faulty inflator which can even lead to death in severe cases. As a result, many manufactures have opted out from Takata as a supplier.
