Nissan low cost brand, Datsun has finally taken the wrap off the entry level hatchback redi-GO which is all set to launch in June this year. First showcased at 2014 auto expo as a concept, bookings for the car will commence from 1st May and deliveries to start from 1st June. The redi-GO might be priced from Rs. 2.4 to 3.5 lakhs (ex-showroom) and will take on Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and its cousin Renault Kwid.
It is based on low cost CMF-A platform and its design heavily influenced by YUKAN design language and redi-GO concept car. The front is characterized by familiar hexagonal grille flanked by wide headlamps with indicators. There is a separate LED DRL strip on the front bumper.
Sides of the car fell pleasing to eyes due to chiseled lines, wide windows to let airy feel inside while high stance and 185mm of ground clearance adds appeal to it. Rear features vertical taillights, separate reflectors on bumper and contoured tail gate.
Thanks to tall boy stance, it is expected to offer best in segment headroom space and decent amount of legroom for front seats. The redi-GO sports new dashboard with new central console, front power windows, new multi function steering wheel, circular AC vents, and simple Din audio system. One should expect high driving position considering the tall boy stance of the hatchback.
The Datsun Redi-GO will use the same 800cc petrol engine that also fuels Kwid though Datsun hasn’t disclosed the exact power and torque figures. The engine will be paired with a five speed manual transmission and expected to deliver 25KMPL of fuel efficiency. At a later stage, Nissan might offer 1.0l petrol engine with AMT gearbox and after redi-GO the carmaker will start working on Go hatch based SUV soon.
Apart from launching new products, the company has also plans to improve its reach as company is looking to have more than 200 outlets in 165 cities and out of these 50 dealerships will be exclusive to Datsun.
