The Gran Coupes and convertibles are not familiar sight in Indian market; there are very few car makers who got their Gran coupe or convertible to India. BMW is one of those carmakers that have been present with their convertibles in the market since 1976. BMW will cash in the niche segments in India this year and it will be started with the launch of BMW 6 series Gran coupe facelift on 29 May 2015.
BMW had unveiled the 6-series facelift globally last year in December and recently showcased at Detroit motor show along with BMW 6 series convertible and M6 coupe. BMW 6 series Gran Coupe comes with some cosmetic changes both inside and outside while retain the mechanics. BMW 6 series Gran Coupe will take on the likes of Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS class.
In a facelifted avatar, BMW 6 series Gran Coupe will sport a new BMW signature kidney grille design, new headlamp cluster with LED multi-beam lights, revised front bumper, new alloy wheels. The rear side also gets some updation with tweaked bumper, more chrome, bigger exhaust pipes and LED tail lights. The facelifted model will come in four exterior shades- Mediterranean Blue, Melbourne Red, Glacier Silver and Cashmere Silver.
On the Inside, BMW 6 series Gran Coupe gets a new head up display, new two-tone leather upholstery and material quality has been upgraded.
There are no changes in the mechanics the facelift model (640d) as it continues to feature a 3.0L, six cylinder diesel engine delivering 313bhp power@4400rpm and 630Nm of peak torque@1500-2500rpm. It sends the power to real wheels via 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and will come with sports exhaust as standard. The vehicle can reach 0-100 km/hr in just 5.4 seconds and can attain the top speed of 250 km/hr.
The BMW 6 series Gran Coupe will continue to be brought via CBU route and expected to be price around Rs. 1.2 crore (ex-showroom). The Gran Coupe will feature some latest technologies as BMW integral active steering, adaptive drive and Dynamic damper control.
