Auto Expo 2016: Volkswagen unveils India bound Polo GTI

Volkswagen Polo GTI

2016 is going to be a huge year for the German carmaker Volkswagen as they have range of new cars lined up for the Indian market and they would also love to leave the dieselgate behind. Alongside Ameo, new Polo, Passat, VW also showcased the performance Polo GTI which will be taking on Abarth Punto and Mini Cooper series when launched in September this year. With an expected price tag of Rs. 18-20 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi), the hot hatch will be brought via CBU route.

Under the hood, the GTI draws power from a meaty 1.8 litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine that develops 190bhp of max power and 250Nm of peak torque, paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. For performance freaks, the car can accelerate to 100km/hr mark from a standstill in just 6.7 seconds while achieving the top speed of 250km/hr.

The GTI is based on the standard Polo chassis and shares almost similar design cues but this variant looks more sporty thanks to three door styling, LED headlamps, contrasting roof, new 17” alloy wheels, revised front bumper, twin exhaust pipes and signature LED tail lamps.

On the inside, the users will get more premium features than the standard Polo such as a 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple car play which allows both IOS and Android Smartphone integration along with voice recognition and navigation. Other highlights include sporty seats, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, new flat bottom steering wheel with audio controls, front and rear armrests with storage space, cruise control, panoramic sunroof, six speakers audio system with USB, I-POD, and Aux-in support.

In terms of safety, it will be boarded with hill hold control, ABS with brake assist, start/stop system with generative braking, EDL, ASR, electronic stability control, dual front and side airbags for the front passengers, rear view camera, park distance control and engine drag control.
