Asia’s biggest automotive event, the Indian auto expo witnessed some important launches and huge announcements such as Baleno RS, Audi R8 V10, new BMW 7 series, new Innova Crysta etc. Renault has had a terrific 2015 thanks to the huge success of Kwid hatchback and it crossed 1 lakh bookings mark within few months of its launch. Now, Renault has decided to hit the jackpot by introducing an AMT version of the hatchback.
New Kwid AMT would be the more powerful version as it will be equipped with 1.0 litre petrol mill in place of 799cc engine available on standard variants. Renault has showcased two versions of 1.0 litre one is available with a manual gearbox while other one comes with an Easy R AMT.
The company has not disclosed any detail regarding its launch date and price but it is expected to launch by end of 2nd Quarter in the price range of Rs. 3.10 to 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
Current version of Kwid is powered by 0.8 l petrol engine that develops max power of 54bhp and 72Nm of peak torque, linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Kwid is the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country with an impressive mileage of 25.17 KMPL. The new version will be powered by 1.0l DOHC Smart control efficiency petrol mill which can produce close to 78bhp with an expected mileage of 24 KMPL.
Interiors are expected to remain same except for the minor tweaks like new touchscreen infotainment system, new color theme etc. At present, drive side airbag is available only on the top end variant as an option but Kwid 1.0l might get it as standard along with other safety aids. Apart from this Renault also showcased the dazzling Kwid Climber and Kwid racer concepts which are not making to the Indian showrooms anytime soon.
