Audi’s much anticipated car A6 has been launched in India carrying a price of Rs. 49.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Interestingly there was no media invite, no conventional launch event, no press conference or photo shoots, all company did was to launch new A6 by sharing a video on popular instant messaging app-Whatsapp. Officially dubbed as A6 matrix 35 TDI, the update will be only available in top S-line trim. This is Audi’s sixth launch of the year after Q3, RS7 sportback, RS 6 Avant, Audi TT coupe and Audi R8 LMX.
The vehicle was initially showcased at the 2014 Paris motor show and it is carrying some changes both inside and outside. The most noticeable change on the new A6 is the new LED matrix lighting system which was first introduced on mighty Audi A8L and RS 6 Avant.
Talking about the most notable changes on the A6 matrix is off course the matrix LED headlamps with dynamic turn indicators and T-shaped LED bars. In addition, the updated saloon gets a new grille much like Q3, restyled front bumper, larger air inducts, chrome detailing on sills completes the sporty front end of new A6.
Moving to the sides, which get 18 inch V spoke design alloy wheels and restyled side skirts. At Rear, tail lights get revamped LEDs with sweptback indicators and exhaust pipes with tweaked bumper. The Matrix LED technology is optional in various global markets but here in India it comes as standard.
In the newest avatar, it receives an updated MMI infotainment system which supports handwriting recognition, voice activation and remote control features for the rear seat occupants. Also, there is a 14 speaker 600W surround system which offers great sound quality along with a four zone climate control. Moreover, the rear passenger can move the front seat forward with the push of a button.
The saloon also gets new Milano leather upholstery in flint grey along with black, beige and new nougat brown as options, appliqués, electric front seats with memory function, leather steering with controls and paddle shifters, anti-glare mirrors, panoramic sunroof, ventilation and massage function for seats, LTE port which provides online service including support from apps.
Internationally, new A6 is available in both petrol and diesel engines but for India it comes with only one engine option i.e. 2.0l TDI diesel engine. The engine churns out 190bhp power and 380Nm of peak torque and comes paired to a 7-speed S-tronic automatic transmission along with Audi drive (four drive modes) and adaptive air suspension. The engine propels new A6 to hit 210km/hr as top speed while delivering 16.6 KMPL of mileage.
As for safety of its passengers, it is loaded with eight airbags, antilock braking system (ABS), hill control, traction control, electronic brake force distribution (EBD), rear parking cameras, ESC, ESP to name a few.
The new A6 would come to India via CBU route and will rival against Jaguar XF, BMW 5-series and Mercedes-Benz E-class.
