Toyota Prius, one of the most admired hybrid cars across the globe has finally landed in India at an asking price of Rs. 39.96 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the single Z8 trim. Built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, Prius was first showcased at 2016 Auto expo before it was launched in international market.
Powering the hybrid is a 1.8l four-cylinder petrol engine that works in collaboration with an electric motor. The 1.8l engine develops 96.5bhp power@5200rpm and 152Nm of torque while an electric motor is tuned to deliver 71bhp of max output and 163Nm of torque. The powertrain is linked to a CVT gearbox. The combined output of both engines stand at 120bhp. Thanks to hybrid Synergy Drive system it develops an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 26.27 Kmpl which makes it one of the most fuel efficient cars in the country.
Despite similar silhouette to previous generation model 2017 Prius comes with some handy design changes making it look futuristic and charming. The fourth generation gets edgy LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, sloping roofline and vertically placed LED tail lights. New Prius is available in seven exterior colors- dark blue metallic, emotional red, white pearl crystal shine, super white II, grey metallic, silver metallic and attitude black mica.
2017 model measures 4540mm in length, 1760mm in width, 1470mm in height and longer wheelbase of 2700mm. The new Prius is 60mm longer, 15mm wide and 20mm lower than the outgoing model.
In terms of features, it sports cruise control, JBL speakers with head up display, premium leather upholstery, wireless charging, smart entry system for front passengers with push start button, multi function steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, dual zone automatic control, heated front seats etc.
Safety segment is taken care by seven airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), vehicle stability control, brake assist, traction control, rear seat child restraint with ISOFIX, seat belt warning etc.
