After its debut in the USA last year, Honda is pepping up to launch new CR-V next year in India which will be similar ASEAN spec variant. The fifth generation of the SUV is likely to be available in diesel variant only. Honda hasn’t been able to make commercial success except for one or two models but with CR-V Japanese auto major will look to change that. When launched, it will lock its horns with Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500, and Jeep Compass.
Honda also announced that CR-V will be brought to India via CKD route sourced from Thailand. The 1.6l diesel engine of new CR-V will be locally manufactured at its Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. In addition, the facility will act as an export hub and will be exported to Thailand and other markets.
The 1.6 liter Oil burner is good for an output of 160PS of max power@4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 350Nm@2000 rpm. The engine will be linked to 9-speed automatic transmission along with 6-speed manual gearbox. In the lineup, there is also a 2.4-litre petrol which churns out 190PS and 226Nm of torque and is linked to a CVT automatic transmission. The engines are likely to be offered in 2WD and AWD versions.
Till now, CR-V is available with 5-seating capacity with rear used for cargo space. But now, Honda CR-V will be launched as full-fledged SUV with three rows that can accommodate seven passengers. The seat features include 60:40 split and 50:50 rear seat split.
The SUV will be longer, wider and better wheelbase which translates into better space inside. For features, it would get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, soft-touch instrument panel and leather seats with contrasting colored stitching.
With a target of 70 percent localization, Honda is looking to price new CR-V around Rs. 20-22 lakh (ex-showroom).
