Following the silent launch of automatic transmission and six airbags on its trendiest hatch Elite i20, Hyundai has introduced six airbags (Side and curtain airbags) on the crossover sibling of the same i20 Active. Six airbags are available on the SX trim and it variant has been priced at Rs. 8.33 lakh for the petrol and Rs. 9.71 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the diesel. The inclusion of six airbags has raised the price by up to Rs. 14,000 over the standard variants.
The introduction of airbags comes in view of enhancing safety regulations that will come into effect from 2017. The Crossover was already equipped with dual front airbags as standard across all the trims. Besides six airbags, i20 Active also gets impact sensing auto door unlock function and anti-lock braking system (ABS).
No mechanical upgrades have been made to the car; it continues to get power from a 1.2 litre Kappa VTVT petrol engine producing 82bhp@6000rpm and 114Nm@4000rpm of peak torque comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.4 Litre U2 CRDi diesel engine makes max output of 88bhp@4000rpm and 220Nm of torque between 1500-2750rpm, linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The i20 Active is a beefed up version of its hatchback counterpart and gets silver roof rails, side cladding, faux skid plates and muscular stance. Besides, Hyundai is pepping for the launch of Tucson SUV in October along with Grand i10 facelift by end of this year.
