After multiple delays and cancellations the Iconic SUV maker ‘Jeep’ has finally marked its entry into Indian market. Jeep’s initial lineup includes- the off roader Wrangler unlimited, Grand Cherokee and Cherokee SRT. Both the models will be brought in India as CBU (Completely Built Up) units, the local manufacturing of new SUVs to commence from next year at Fiat Chrysler Ranjangaon plant, near Pune. Price:
Unlike Wrangler which is available in three grades- Limited, Summit and CRT, Wrangler unlimited is offered in long wheelbase ‘unlimited’ trim only, priced at Rs. 71.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Engine Details:
Targeting the off roaders, Wrangler unlimited extracts power from a 2.8 litre turbocharged Eco diesel engine that churns out 197bhp@3600rpm of max output and 460Nm of peak torque between 1600-2600rpm. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via five speed auto gearbox and command-Trac shift-on-the-fly part time 4WD system. The SUV delivers ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 12.1 Kmpl. The Wrangler limited will get a petrol derivative in November.
Space and Dimensions:
The 2119 kg SUV is 4583mm long, 1877mm wide and 1829mm tall. It has a good ground clearance of 238.2mm while having the wheelbase of 2947mm and seating capacity for five persons.
Colors:
The rugged off roader has been made available in six exterior shades- Bright white, black, granite crystal, Billet silver metallic, Rhino and Firecracker red. There’s a soft roof top, hardtop and you can stow away the roof and doors as well.
Exterior and Interior:
The Legendary off roader comprises of seven slate signature vertical front grille, roundish headlamps, trapezoidal wheel arches and menacing black front bumper. The four door model comes with standard soft top and optional removable hard roof top as well. Moving to the rear which sports typical jeep styling with tailgate mounted spare wheel and simplistic tail lamps.
The simplistic theme continues inside as well but signifies premiumness with features like McKinley black with light gray accent stitching or McKinley dark saddle with black accent stitching, lockable central console, 6.5 inch U-connect touchscreen system with voice command, navigation and 40GB hard drive. It also gets heated front seats, automatic climate control; leather wrapped multi-utility steering wheel, 9-speaker Alpine surround sound system, reclining front seats, 60/40 rear seat spilt and washable interior with drain plugs.
