India’s ace carmaker Maruti Suzuki decided to give its best selling hatchback Swift a new limited edition. Christened as DLX, the new Kit is available on base LXI and LDI variants with price starts at Rs. 4.54 lakh for the petrol while diesel cost at Rs. 5.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The current gen Swift is heading towards the end of the lifecycle so it needs something to keep the momentum until the new model which is scheduled for 2017.
There is no change on the mechanical front; it continues to takes its juice from tired and tested engines. The 1.2l VVT petrol engine which puts out 83bhp@6000rom and 114Nm of peak torque@4000rpm while the 1.3l DDis diesel engine develops 74bhp@4000rpm and 190Nm of torque@2000rpm. Both the engines are linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is one of the fuel efficient cars in the segment with diesel delivering 25.2 KMPL of mileage while petrol is good for 20.4 Kmpl.
Based on entry level variants, it sport body colored OVRM and door handles and blackened out B-pillars and fog lamps. Features that make their way inside the limited edition is a new 2 DIN audio system with bluetooth connectivity, USB and dual front door mounted speakers, all four power windows, central locking, MID with digital clock, fuel consumption and outside temperature display etc.
The DLX edition is also loaded with number of safety features such as smart warning indicators, child lock, iCAT security system, engine immobilizer, front and rear 3-point seat belts, dual horn, front and rear headrests and side door impact beams.
In recent times, there has been a massive drop in the sales as buyers are choosing Baleno over Swift. Maruti has started the test runs of next Gen Swift which will make its first appearance at 2016 Paris motor show in October this year. Expected to hit Indian market by 2017, the new model will be longer, wider and more fun to drive.
