After launching C-class diesel, CLA-class, new B-class, refreshed A-class has added a new variant CLS 250 CDI to its line up and it makes the fifth launch of 2015 as a part of ’15 in 15’ strategy. The facelifted CLS 250 CDI will go on sale in India at the commanding price of Rs. 76.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In order to sell more units in the country Mercedes has launched it with a diesel engine, earlier it was available with V6 petrol engine.
CLS 250 CDI gets the same of engine that does duty in E250 CDI and ML 250 CDI. The stylish four door coupe is powered by 2143cc, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 201bhp power@3800rpm and 500Nm of peak torque@1600-1800rpm matched to a 7G-Tronic plus automatic transmission. The four door coupe comes with paddle shifters, airmatic suspension and Eco start/stop function. The automatic gearbox comes with economy and sport mode to alter shift characteristics.
CLS 250 CDI gets minor tweaks cosmetically such as new bumper with air ducts, revised grille with Merc’s conventional diamond pattern similar to updated A-class, LED head lights with optimal multi-beam technology and 24 individual LEDs which automatically adjust light rays to prevent other drivers from being blind, regular LEDs are standard, sloping roofline, new 10 spoke alloy wheels, LED tail lamps with adaptive bending technology.
The cabin of CLS 250 CDI enhanced by 8-inch standing display screen with navigation internet, three spoke multi-function steering wheel, sporty centre cluster, Harman Kardon 5.1 digital surround system with 14 speakers with ambient lighting, various option of upholstery for seats, seats with memory function and a special feature called Mercedes-Benz apps with command online system.
Mercedes-Benz has made CLS rich in safety segment as well, receives parking package, 360 degree camera assist, 8 airbags, airmatic suspension, ABS, EBD, ESP, parking assist, attention assist, hill start assist, adaptive high beam assist, tyre pressure monitor, PRE-safe system, neck pro headrests among others.
Mercedes is bringing CLS 250 CDI to India as CBU which is the main reason of its steep pricing. It will lock its horns with BMW 6-series Gran coupe and Audi A7.
