Mahindra has launched most anticipated car of the month and most successful SUV since its launch Scorpio on 25th September 2014. New Scorpio is taking the legacy of 2002 Scorpio forward; though Scorpio has been reintroduced many times like in 2006, 2009 and 2010 with different innovations and introductions. 2014 Scorpio is bit different as it offers hosts of new features, redesigned front, rear and cabin. Can, one of most appraised SUV be able to deliver the brilliancy and class of Previous Gen Scorpio? Let’s find out the offerings of new Mahindra Scorpio.
Price:
New Gen Mahindra Scorpio is smartly priced, price of base variant S2 starts with Rs. 8.40 lakhs and Price of top variant S10(4WD) which is at Rs. 13.05 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). Initial price of Scorpio is very affordable and lesser than the competitors especially the amount of features new Scorpio is offering.
Engine Details:
Mahindra launched New Scorpio in S2, S4, S6, S8 & S10 variants with S4, S6 will be getting safety packages soon. New Scorpio comes with one engine option i.e. Diesel which is further divided into two sets.
Base Variant S2 is powered with 2523cc 2.5L m2DICR turbocharged Diesel engine which produces 75BHP power@3200rpm and 200nm torque@ 1400-2200rpm. This engine comes equipped with 5 Speed manual transmission based on RWD, AWD will be available soon and Fuel efficiency of this 2.5L engine is around 15 KPL which is quite good.
Other variants besides S2 are powered with Mahindra’s conventional 2.2L mhawk diesel engine which is able to produce 120BHP power@4000rpm and 280nm of peak torque@1800-2800rpm. It is mated with five speed manual transmission with no automatic gearbox option as per now. Fuel efficiency has been improved to 15.37KPL. Company claiming that fuel efficiency of Scorpio has been improved by 37 percent since 2002.
Space & Dimensions:
Mahindra new Scorpio measures 4456mm in length improved by 26mm, 1820mm wide which 13mm more than the current one and 1930mm height for S2 variant and for other variants it is 1995mm which again better than the current one.
New Mahindra Wheelbase of 2680mm and turning radius of 5.4m for 2WD and 5.65m for 4WD. It has seating capacity for 9 persons with number of seat options. Boot capacity of New Scorpio is 460 liters.
Interiors & Exteriors:
On the Inside Let’s start with the Dashboard which is revamped with Black-grey enhancement which looks eye soothing and central console gets 6 inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-built navigation; it also supports Bluetooth, CD, DVD, USB and AUX-IN options.
Centre console also has lots of buttons like fully automatic air control, Intelli park button, tyre tronics and Shift on fly buttons (2H, 4H and 4L). For rear seat passengers there is 7” LCD screen fitted at the front seat headrests. Power windows buttons have been moved to windows armrests from the central console. Steering wheel is a sportier one now and it gets steering mounted controls and Cruise control buttons.
Seats has been dig up with new two tone blue- grey color scheme which looks astonishing. Seats options are also wide you can choose from captain seats and front facing seats for third and second row, buyer can choose from 7, 8 and 9 seater options.
Externally, new Scorpio furnishes new LED eye lifted like Headlamps, door bonnet scoop, wide air dams, renewed front grille with lots of chromic surrounding, the lower side under Mahindra’s logo has also been changed like Revised Scorpio font lettering, wider air ducts.
From the Side new Scorpio looks like a Pajero, Isn’t it? Well, Side gets Body colored Door handles and ORVM’s with new 17” alloy wheels and Stylish silver finished fender carrying the name of the engine. roof rails comes in black color, rear of the new Scorpio gets has undergone a complete makeover, rear appliqué is decorated with two tone color scheme, new rear LED tail lights which are trendy. Overall, the appearance of new Scorpio looks eye soothing, catchy and appealing.
Colors:
In total new Scorpio available in five gorgeous colors which are Diamond White, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Regal Blue and Molten Red. Molten Red and regal blue are new color introductions, but white color has its own charm.
Safety:
New Scorpio has left no stone unturned in terms of safety features with the features like dual air bags, ABS+EBD, Digital immobilizer, anti-theft warning, rear parking sensors, dual horn, auto door lock etc.
New Gen Scorpio consist special safety features like panic braking indication which brings hazard light come automatically, over speed alert system, powerful headlamps and new Scorpio is based on modular ladder frame chassis which provides rigidness and firmness to the structure of the car to provide more protection to the passengers.
Verdict:
List of features are quite impressive, exterior and interior enhancements just puts icing on the cake. New Color option can attract the youth which might prove a plus for Scorpio, prices are very competitive and fuel mileage is also improved. New Scorpio has all the elements of a perfect car.
