Volkswagen has officially announced the launch of new Passat in India, the D-segment executive sedan will hit the Indian shores on 10th October 2017. The new Passant has been spied multiple sans camouflage and the production of the sedan has been already commenced at VW’s Aurangabad facility. Once launched, it will take on Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Skoda Superb in India and expected to price around Rs. 32 lakh (Ex-showroom).
At tape, new Passat measures 4767mm in length, 1832 in width and 1456mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2791mm while boot space stands at 586 litres. As compared to the previous generation, the new model is 12mm wider, 2mm shorter and 14mm lower while the wheelbase is increased by 79mm and boot capacity by 26 litres.
Under the hood, the Passat would be powered by a 2.0l TDI diesel engine that makes 174bhp of max output. Showcased at 2016 Auto Expo, the GTE hybrid variant will come with a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor that makes a combined power output of 215bhp and 400Nm, linked to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The Passat features the familiar design technology and comes with a new bonnet, revised front-rear bumpers, LED headlamps with LED DRLs and dynamic light assist, three slate chrome grille, new alloy wheels, flared wheel arches and LED tail lights.
The interior will be equipped with advanced gadgets such as 12.3-inch head up display with Android auto and Apple car play, driver seat adjustment, two-way auto climate control, digital instrument cluster inspired by Audi TT and much more. Safety features on new Passant include nine airbags, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, parking steering assist, automatic post-collision braking to name a few.
