2016 Auto Expo: Chevrolet Camaro makes debut

Chevrolet Camaro

The Camaro has been one of the most iconic cars Chevrolet has ever produced, already launched in some international markets, the supercar makes its way into the Indian shores during the 13th Edition of Auto Expo. Initially revealed at last year’s Detroit motor show, the car is approx 90 kg lighter than the previous version as it is based on General Motors’ new Alpha platform.

In its sixth Generation, the sportscar will not be launched in India; it is brought here for the research and development purposes. The car showcased at the auto Expo was in left hand drive configuration unlike Mustang GT which will be launched during the festive season in India this year.

In terms of design it flaunts tenor stance with sleek headlamps housing LED daytime running lights, huge front air dam, side creases, coupe like side profile, elegant tail lamps and rear spoiler gives it the aerodynamic stance.

On the inside of Camaro, you get blend of red and black leather with aluminium accents all around. For features it sports an eight inch touchscreen infotainment system with Mylink app, central AC vents, automatic climate control, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi-Hotspot, light weight magnesium seats, performance data recorder and much more to match the sporty exterior profile.

The Chevrolet Camaro is 4784mm long, 1897mm wide and 1348mm tall which is approx 57mm, 20mm less wide and 28mm shorter than the previous model. It sits on 2811mm of wheelbase which is again 41mm less than the outgoing generation car.

The Chevrolet Camaro is available with three gasoline engine choices- starting with a 2.0 liter turbocharged unit that delivers 275hp power and 400Nm of peak torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. There is also a 3.6 liter V6 unit that churns out 335hp power and 385Nm of torque, matched with a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The top of the list is a massive 6.2l engine good for a max power of 455bhp and 617Nm of torque. But sadly Indian market won’t be getting either of the engines as GM has no plan to launch Camaro in the country.
