Riding high on the success of recently launched Aspire compact sedan, Ford is all set to bring new Figo hatchback in India tomorrow. The new Figo hatchback shares its design and interiors with its bigger sibling Aspire sedan and the company has already discontinued the old gen Figo to make way for the new model. The 2015 Figo hatchback will be manufactured alongside the aspire sedan at Ford’s Sanand plant in Gujarat.
Price and Competition:
The 2015 Figo hatchback will be served in one of the most competitive segments in the country which is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10. In a bid to crack the segment Ford needs to price it competitively, so going by the localization level new Figo contain we are expecting it to be priced between Rs. 4.20-6.95 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Engine details:
It is a high possibility that the new Figo would get the same engines of Aspire and these are 1.2l Ti-VCT petrol and 1.5l TDCi diesel engines. The former produces 89bhp power and 112Nm of torque while latter delivers max power of 98bhp and 215Nm torque. Both engines come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Reports suggest that the Ford might equip the bigger 1.5l Ti-VCT petrol mill with the premium hatchback which is good for massive 110bhp power and 136NM of torque, offered with a six speed DCT automatic gearbox. If Ford decides to pair it with this engine then it will not get the exempted duty provided by the government as it is available for engines less than 1200cc.
Design:
As said earlier, it sports the same styling cues seen on Aspire and looks exactly the same with no visual difference at all. At rear you get curvy boot with wraparound tail lamps and rear spoiler. Ford Figo hatchback will be offered in new tangy orange and wild copper colors which would give the entry level hatchback that premium touch.
Interior and Safety:
Recently, the interiors of the car has been snapped which shows no difference at all as compared to Aspire sedan. The only difference lies in the color scheme; the hatchback will be available in all black color scheme with silver accents as compared to beige interiors of Aspire. In terms of features, it will come with Ford’s SYNC multimedia system, automatic climate control, Ford MYDOCK audio system, front-rear power windows etc.
One of the USP of upcoming Figo would be its safety element; Ford will be offering dual front airbags as standard across all variants of the hatchback while the titanium variant will get six airbags which is segment first feature. Besides airbags, it will be equipped with reverse parking sensors, ABS, BED, hill start assist and traction control.
If priced rightly then the 2015 Figo hatchback has all the elements to become another success story for the American car maker.
