Toyota Fortuner clocks 1 lakh sales milestone in India

New Toyota Fortuner

Synonymous with brute and true blue SUV, world’s number one carmaker Toyota has announced that its premium SUV has surpassed one lakh sales milestone in the Indian market. Since its launch in 2009, the car has been dominating the segment and managed to stay at number 1 position. The Japanese giant launched new iteration of the SUV last month at Rs. 25.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which goes against New Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

Based on new Hilux Revo pick up platform, new Fortuner has already received more than 6200 bookings within 21 days of its launch. Toyota also registered 21,000 enquiries for the SUV and retailed 2000 units of second gen Fortuner in November witnessing an 80 percent growth. Toyota also said that it has more than 5000 pending orders up its sleeve.

Toyota Fortuner packs with a 2.8l diesel engine which develops 177bhp power and 450Nm of torque while 2.7l petrol engine generates a max output of 164bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated with a manual as well as automatic transmission. Diesel is available with AWD drive system while petrol trims are offered in RWD drive system. Of the two, diesel engine is more popular.

On achieving this milestone, Mr. N. Raja, Director & Senior Vice President, Marketing & Sales, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “Being able to serve more than one lakh happy customers in such a premium and competitive segment, is a huge achievement for us. This would not have been possible without the support of our customers who have appreciated the product so much. The new Fortuner also has received an overwhelming response from the market. With over 6000 booking orders within the first few weeks of its launch, we sold close to 2000 units of the new Fortuner last month clocking more than 80% growth when compared to the numbers sold in the corresponding period in 2015. We still have close to 5000 pending orders which we are trying to deliver to our customers at the earliest possible.”
