If reports are to believe then Tata Motors is working on a new hatchback codenamed as Kite as for now. This newly preparing Kite will be positioned in between the company’s already ongoing two successful hatchbacks- Nano and Indica. The hatchback is a highly demanding and competitive segment of our Indian automobile industry and Tata Motors surely is working hard to increase the competition race and make its place on top with its new models.

Note: The mentioned facts here are yet to be confirmed by the company and hence could be changed by the launch.

The Kite is expected to hit the Indian car market by the end of 2015 and will give a rub-shoulder fight to Maruti Celerio and New Ford Figo etc. This new hatch will be manufactured in company’s plant in Sanand, Gujarat with the expectedly 150,000 units per annum.

The price has not revealed but as it will sit between the Tata Nano and Tata Indica, it might share price tags between 2.58-4.13 lakhs.

The exact details about this new entry level model is not revealed yet but it is expected to get a 800cc 3-cyl petrol and 1.2 litre 4-cyl turbo petrol engines, while there is no reports on diesel mill yet. Further, Kite might also get an automated manual transmission (like the Celerio) which will base on Advanced Modular Platform (AMP).

“The company is looking at the vast potential as its current models like Indica cannot serve the small car market and Nano has not achieved the desired results. Kite would be placed in between the Nano and the Indica,” a source said.

“Tata Motors has a great reach in market, but it has issues of quality as it is a key to success in this segment with demanding Indian customer have a lot of options to choose these days. It will be interesting to see how Tata differentiates the sub-1000 cc product and offers a greater value to the customer from the established products in the segment,” said Amit Kaushik – principal analyst (Autos) – IHS Automotive, a global consultancy firm. “We do not comment on future products,” though company refused to share anything about its future product.
