Tata Motors, the Indian car maker will unveil its CNG version of Indigo eCS carby the end of this month (Aug 2013) and shall cost starting from Rs. 5.5lacs to Rs. 5.8 lacs.IndiGoeCS is already a popular choice for middle class because of affordable price tag and better mileage in sedan class cars. This car has been a tough competitor to Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire.

Tata being an Indian brand always make cars which are suitable to Indian tastes and meets their immediate needs, which is the reason why Tata holds a very good market in India in automobile industry. Tata has revamped its major cars Indigo eCS, Indica V2 and Nano with emax CNG variants to reduce the running cost of the cars because of the inflating prices in petrol and diesel in India(petrol being around Rs 71 in Delhi and Rs. 78 in Mumbai). This is theme of their customer focused strategy ‘horizonext’.

Under the Hood: This CNG version of the car is based on its petrol version and thus has the same 1.2l 4 cylinder engine  displacing1193 ccand offering 56 bhp power and 90 Nm torque. The car is expected to offer fuel efficiency of 24 km/kg. The transmission is expected to be 5-speed manual just like its predecessor and turning radius to be same 5m and ground clearance to be 165 mm. The car is eco friendly because CO2 emission is very low because of CNG as fuel. A big reason to smile for the Environmentalists!

Interiors:  the car now has enhanced interior aura mainly because of the dual tone upholstery and has improved gear shifts unlike its previous which often had complaints on this. The boot space is mostly occupied by the CNG tank as it is 60l cylinder and thus the remaining space can accommodate only 2 travel bags or so. The instrument panel is the same, but there are other additions and modification like there is a glovebox, and other pockets here and there to store articleslike cup holders, new Blaupunkt music system has better sound quality and which includes Bluetooth connectivity, USB and Aux-in ports. The car has power steering and power windows. The NVH level has also been reduced to a great amount and thus cabin is almost sound-proof.

Exteriors: the car has fine12 spoke alloy wheels, the side profile has an‘emax’ signaturesignifying it being a CNG car & the electrically adjustable ORVMs have turn indicators on them, revised front bonnet having a chrome strip outlining it on the grill side, the grill has a bird wing shape chrome style with brand logo intact at the centerand rear bumper also get a chrome line, just in attempt to add style and headlamps are blackenedwhich give a beast look. The front of the car has fog lamps on either side of the radiator grill.

The car is a great for those who use to buy diesel cars to reduce running costs, because CNG offers better mileage figures. The Experts have given a thumbs up to the car. Now let’s wait until the car is launched and then check out again here for feedback.
